Debut release from Bersa Discos, a new label devoted to spreading experimental cumbia sounds from Buenos Aires to dance floors on both sides of the equator.  Launched in late 2007, Bersa Discos is the brainchild of Disco Shawn and Oro11, two Bay Area DJs who met while living as expats in Buenos Aires and bonded over their shared enthusiasm for cumbia.

The mission is to bring cumbia flavors to the masses. With 12"s like this, it won't take long. Hijo De La Cumbia's original comes with the truly wild cumbia styles. The remix from label co-founder Oro11 throws a dancehall curveball, laying Spice's "Fight Over Man" vocals across the top, then head straight for Daleduro's dubsteppy "Bombon Asesino," which resonates with bubbling, bassy beats and an infectious accordion sample.

On the flip, two heavy midtempo tracks from the Hijo: the dubby, percussive "La Mara Tomaza" and "Cumbia de los Barrios" with the dope pan flute sample. Recommended.
